Sleeping warrior

scotland in miniature

Arran has a little bit of everything from rolling hills and rugged mountains to lush glens and varied coastlines, beautiful beaches, enchanting forests and great walks throughout the island.

There’s a variety of wildlife here. Go up to Lochranza at the north of the island and you’ll likely see red deer and stags grazing. Look up to the hills above the distillery there and if you’re lucky, you might see golden eagles, of which there are several pairs here. Red squirrels have been forced out of most parts of the UK by the larger grey squirrel, but Arran is one of the strongholds for these small mammals. Seals can be seen basking on the rocks around the island; a great spot for seal spotting is Kildonan at the southern end. You might also see an otter or two around the coast, and you’re sure to see families of swans who thrive on the seaweed.

sleeping warrior

If you’ve already visited Arran, you’ll know it’s a great place to spend some time. If this is your first visit, we’re confident you will want to come back! The view from the Calmac Ferry coming from Ardrossan, will be of the “Sleeping Warrior,” as the view from the Ayrshire coast is known.

Lamlash, just 3 miles from Brodick and the ferry terminal, has everything you would expect from a Scottish village: four pubs, restaurants, cafes, a stunning golf course, shops and spectacular views over the bay and Holy Isle.

Stonewater House is located at the end of the pier, with just a short walk from the yacht club. Click on our links page for some more ideas on what to see and do near Stonewater House.

Getting to Arran is easy, especially now we have a long awaited brand new ferry; please click here for details of the ferry.

“Vegan B&B Where You Won’t Miss Animal Produce”

Vegan bed and breakfast where you won’t miss the animal produce. This in itself probably is the best compliment on offer. Before I booked I was a bit hesitant because I am not vegan myself, but of course willing to respect the house rules. Carol and Jules are very friendly and helpful. Our room was spacious, to the side of the house and as such was very peaceful. This is a big plus (though most of Arran is peaceful). The breakfast options are plenty, generous and really, really good. As said: you won’t miss the animal produce and might find very convincing reasons to try the lifestyle. Finally, to dispel prejudice about vegans: Carol and Jules did not forcibly try to convert us 😉 really respectful, relaxed and great to talk to.

“Best B&B I’ve Stayed At In The UK”

This is the best B&B I’ve stayed at in the UK. The vegan breakfast is phenomenal. The house is gorgeous and the bed super comfy. The room was wonderfully spacious. So many awesome touches from fully vegan paraben-free products in the bathroom to an amazing assortment of teas, Naked bars and fruit in the bedroom. Super quiet location opposite Holy Isle in walking distance to several places to eat. Oh, try the cakes in the Old Pier cafe opposite!! The hosts were simply wonderful, even offering to book us a restaurant for our evening meal. Everything about our stay was perfect. If you want peace and tranquil energy, this is the place for you. I’ll certainly be back.

“Best Breakfast We’ve Ever Had”

We recently stayed in Stonewater House and loved every minute of our stay there. The owners Carol and Jules are lovely and couldn’t be more helpful and accommodating. The B&B is immaculately clean and has a stunning view across Lamlash Bay to the Holy Isle. The breakfasts were the best we’ve ever had while on holiday anywhere and they were all freshly prepared with lots of homemade produce. If you stay here I can guarantee you’ll love it. Thanks again Carol & Jules for a lovely stay.
